On The Course May 30th

Rubiel and Jose trimming the pond edge on #10
We have finally hit a pretty good stretch of weather and the crew has been able to get caught up on most of the mowing. Sheldon and Craig were able to get most of the rough on the course cleaned up yesterday. We will be working on getting the rest finished today. We are in the spring/summer time period where the turf has a good flush of growth. The temperatures in the 80's along with all the rain we have been getting sure helps. The crew was able to get all of the trees trimmed the past couple of days as we start to work on some of the detail job tasks.

The willow stumps on 9 have been dug out and will be removed late next week. We brought in a mini excavator to help pull some of the larger surface roots out. We are dry enough on the course to bring in the stump grinder and get the rest of the stumps clean up next week. Some of these will be seeded and a few will be cleaned up with sod. Next week we will be topdressing fairways and approaches. This process will be taking us most of the week and if the weather cooperates should be minimally invasive. The topdressing will help firm up the fairways and help the surface drain a little better.

League play is full speed ahead.

On The Course May 20th

Fernando Patino Needle Tining #9 Green
On Monday we were able to get the front nine greens topdressed and needle tined. After the greens were needle tined they were brushed and rolled to smooth the putting surface. We still need to roll 3, 4 and 6 green on the front side. We were rained out of the rest of the putting surfaces. We are hopeful to finish this task as well as a growing list of others later this week.

We have received a total of 2.00 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. The course was finally drying out before the rain and should take it in fairly well. The crew is out this morning fixing bunkers, changing pin locations and pumping water out of low areas. Kurt Wacker and Rubiel Dorantes were able to get the irrigation leak on #12 fixed before the big rains moved in. We are close to be fully charged up and ready for the summer. We have to replace some internal drives on the irrigation heads and run through the clubhouse irrigation.

A very light coating of topdressing sand was applied to the greens
We are having a Grounds Committee meeting this afternoon at 2pm. We will be discussing course conditions and upcoming projects. The Grounds Committee has formed a sub committee to look at the Maintenance Facility Renovation and Comfort Stations that will be added to the golf course.

MORE RAIN!!

On The Course May 15th

Pear Tree and Tulips in Bloom

It has been a very raining stretch of weather but we were finally able to get out and get some turf mowed. There are still a lot of wet areas but there is some hope in the forecast. The crew was able to get fairways, approaches and bunker banks mowed yesterday. Sheldon and Craig started to work on mowing rough around the greens and tees. They will be skipping some of the wet areas and we will get back to these when the grounds dries.

Our greens aerification was rained out on Monday and has been rescheduled for May 19th. If the rest of the course remains dry enough we will start on tee and fairway aerification also. We will be scarifying fairways and topdressing them with sand. This will take a few days to complete and we might be making some late evenings or overnight shifts to catch up on this task. Below is a picture of what the needle tine process will look like on the greens. Minimally invasive but will provide some much needed air exchange to the roots of the putting surfaces.

On The Course May 11th

Mr. Talberg out of the Bunker on #18 during the Men's Opener Event
We have received 0.25 inches of rain overnight. The crew will be mowing greens and touching up bunkers this morning. Jenna Wolff will be setting pin locations today. Greens aerification starts tomorrow and we will be lightly topdressing, needle tining and brushing. We will start to work on fairway and tee aerification once the greens are done. The fairways will be verticut and topdressed with sand. Once the sand in on the fairways they will be solid tined with 1/2" tines. This will take a little over a week to complete as soon as our Kubota tractor arrives from the dealer.

On The Course May 9th

Ladies Scramble Event on May 2nd
We received another 1.5 inches of rain overnight and the golf course is pretty wet. We will be assessing the golf course this morning for playability. The crew will be working on pumping out some low areas as well as finishing up the bunker edging project. If we do not receive any more rain this morning we will be mowing greens and setting the course up for play. We will be cart path only today and probably tomorrow with the wet conditions.

We have been working on charging the irrigation system this week and only have found a couple of small leaks. Corey and Jenna have a couple of them fixed but we have a couple more to go on the back nine. There is a quick coupler off of the steel main line that is leaking on #12 right in the middle of the landing area. These areas are marked with stakes and should be avoided with all traffic.

We will be aerifying greens on Monday, May 12th. The weather does not look promising for Monday but we are hopeful to get the work done. We will be using a 8mm solid tine on the greens similar to what we did last spring. We will topdressing the greens lightly with sand, needle tine and roll the greens. This process will be minimally disruptive and the playability of the surface should be back to normal in a couple of days. Fairway aerification will also be started next week. This process will involve scarifying the fairway, topdressing with sand and brushing the sand into the turf canopy.

We will be having a Grounds Committee meeting on May 20th at 2:00pm. We will cover course conditions, equipment update and a report from the Maintenance Facility Committee.

We have placed a sign next to one of the outlet points to the XGD drainage on 18 Fairway
The rain has slowed in the past 24 hours but we still have hit or miss spotty showers in the area. The crew is heading out to pull the cover off the range tee and will continue to work on bunker edges this morning. The golf course is still really wet from 1 inch of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. We are looking at some better weather in the forecast for the weekend.

We will be looking at opening the course this afternoon if we do not see any significant rain this morning. The greens are still saturated but have drained a little bit overnight. It will not take much rain to add puddles back to the fine turf surfaces. Check Foretees for a complete update later this morning.
