On The Course July 26th

Dick Brunfeldt mowing #2 fairway this morning
We are mowing greens this morning and Spraying Tees. Bill, Ron and Dick are out on the fairway mowers and Sheldon is following them with the blower. It is a very nice cool morning and we should have perfect weather for weekend golf. Gabriel and Fernando are mowing the rough around greens and tees. We will be working on some irrigation issues later this morning on #7 tee and behind the pool.

Next week is Club Championship week starting with the Junior Championships on Monday and Tuesday followed by the Men's Championship Friday through Sunday. The greens are growing very well right now with the cooler evening and nighttime temperatures. The forecast looks very well for the next week with temperatures in the low 80's and nighttime temperatures in the low 60's.

On The Course July 25th

We are mowing and rolling greens this morning and setting the course for Women's League and the Men's Senior City League. Bill, Ron and Dick are mowing fairways this morning. We will be working on some detail trimming work later in the morning after morning jobs are completed. The greens were sprayed Tuesday with some wetting agent to help with the infiltration and distribution of our irrigation water. We watered the product in very heavy Tuesday night and should not have to water the green surfaces much for the next couple of days. We are seeing the emergence of some Japanese Beetles on the course but have not seen the numbers to see any significant damage at this point. If you see them on the greens give them a little tap with the putter.

We are looking at some cooler temperatures over the next few days which should be perfect for golf. The Club Championship starts next week with the Juniors early in the week followed by the Men's flight on Friday. We will start mowing some Native areas the end of this week and into next week.

On The Course July 21st

John Corness out of the green side bunker on #9 after making and ACE on #8!
It was a great first round to the Member/Member Tournament. There are a lot of teams within a couple shots of the leaders. Mr. Corness made and Ace on #8 with a great shot to the back hole location. We are mowing and rolling greens this morning and setting hole locations for the final round of the Member/Member. We have some very nice cooler temperatures this morning with a chance of a passing shower throughout the day.

We will be working on some irrigation repairs at the pool area this next week. We will also be looking at working on the tee project on #3. We have a few different events this next week and we will be trying to work on some off course projects during these events.

On The Course July 20th

We are mowing and rolling greens this morning. A few light showers rolled through overnight and the temperatures and humidity have dropped. We should have a great day for the first round of the Member/Member Tournament. We will be spot watering the golf course after the tournament this morning. The crew has had a busy week and with the 4:30am start they are out mowing with lights on. We have lights set up on all the greens mowers and rollers which gives us the ability to get started early and get the course set up before the shotgun start at 8:30am. We have a good dew pattern on the greens this morning and they should roll pretty good today.

Dick mowing the Intermediate Rough on Monday Night

We are preparing the course this morning for the final round of the 2013 MGA Amateur. The crew has done a great job working really early in the mornings and coming back in the evenings to mow again. The course has been playing very well the past couple of days and has held up very well with the high temperatures and humidity. We are mowing and rolling greens this morning. Fairways, collars and approaches will also be mowed. We will be resetting the golf course for Member play after the Amateur Tournament has cleared most of the front nine. Troy and Corey will be spot watering areas of the course and we might have to get the rough mowers out to start getting the rough cleaned up for the Member/Member Tournament this week.

On The Course July 13th

Radar image from 5:20am July 13th, 2013
We are waiting for the rain to pass through before we will be able to get out on the course and see how much standing water we have. At 4:15am we had a little over an inch of rain and at 5:20am we are at about 2.5 inches of rain. Most of the rain will sheet off the golf course but the flat fairways will have standing water. Once the rain is done and we are able to get out on the course we will be fixing bunkers and draining water throughout the golf course.

The course has been playing very well this week and we are ready for the MGA Amateur Tournament. We will be making some adjustments to our maintenance schedule due to the amount of rain we have received. We are looking at some very hot and humid days in the up coming week leading up to the Member/Member Tournament next weekend. Troy was able to get a lot of shaping done on the tee project on #3 yesterday. We are leveling the white tee and making it larger. We are also adding a green tee to the hole. We will be posting some more pictures and schedule information early next week.

Troy spraying #12 fairway
We have had a busy week with a lot of small projects on the golf course. Monday we were able get the Greens and Fairways sprayed with fertilizer and fungicide. Kent from Kent's Stump removal was out on Monday to get the stumps from the storm damage ground down. The crew was able to get the ground material cleaned up and filled with topsoil. We will be putting some sod on a few of these and seeding the remaining ones. We have been able to get some more fill material hauled to the tee project on #3 as well as getting the willow stump on # 9 tipped over. We will be hauling the stump and debris to the barn area today.

Sheldon will be out on the rough mower today and we will start to let the rough grow a little for the MGA Amateur Tournament. We will be watching the growth over the next couple of days and will be looking at the mowing schedule for next week. If you plan on playing next Wednesday you will probably see a little deeper rough than normal. We should be able to get everything mowed up on Thursday of next week to get the course ready for the Member/Member tournament next weekend.

Running a roller base along the pool fence to water the turf.
We are mowing greens this morning and hand watering areas of the course. We were able to re-install our 100 horsepower irrigation motor yesterday afternoon. The motor had a short circuit in it last Saturday and had to be fixed. McCarthy Well Company came out on Monday and pulled the motor and took it to the repair shop. We were able to get through the week with our second well at less than a third of our normal capacity. We had to scramble and water some stuff throughout the day but the crew handled it very well and got the job done. We have a couple more days in the low 90's before a break in the weather should bring cooler temperatures with a chance of rain.

We have had a few other irrigation problems around the pool area that will be addressed early next week. We will be running a roller base on the north side of the pool over the next couple of days. Next week we will continue on the tee project on #3 hauling fill to the area and started to rough grade the tee area.

Gabriel rolling #9 green this morning after the needle tine
We are mowing greens with groomers this morning. Pete and Fernando are venting the greens with needle tines. This will help get some air into the soil profile and set us up very well for the next month of hot weather. We have no outside event today and that will give us enough time to get the venting process finished. We will be topdressing greens later this morning if the venting process goes smoothly otherwise we will topdress Tuesday.

We have a busy week ahead of us with the tee project on #3 and daily maintenance. The 4th of July Holiday on Thursday will be a short day for the staff as we expect the course to fill up with golfers. We are looking at a great stretch of weather this week.
