On The Course August 29th

Corey Heasley laser grading the White tee on #3
We have had a interesting couple of weeks with the most recent stretch of heat and humidity. We have been cutting back on the normal stress that we can put on the golf course from a maintenance standpoint. We have been mowing or rolling greens but not both on the same day. With the high heat we want to limit the stress and abuse that we put on the greens daily. This will ensure they survive the heat and we will be able to enjoy them the rest of the season.

We were able to get the new tees on #3 laser leveled but will be waiting on sod until next week after the heat wave has passed through. We have sod scheduled to be delivered next Thursday, September 5th. We are starting our fall aerification process late Monday afternoon and the golf course will be closed Tuesday to complete the greens aerification. We will also be working on tees and fairways. Some of our staff has left for the season and are starting school but we still have a very good core group of employees. Greens will be aerified with a 1/2" tine which is slightly smaller than what we have done in the past. Our goal with the fall aerification is remove as much organic matter as we can and fill the holes with sand. Below is a video of the process from last fall. Most of the process will be the same but we have added a few wrinkles that should help with our productivity.

Welcome to my OFFICE!!

Corey Heasley changing the hole location after Gabriel rolled the putting surface
I do not know what your office looks like but here are a couple pictures from mine. One of the best parts about working on the course in the morning is the sunrise. It only lasts a couple of minutes but if you are in the right areas of the course you just have to be amazed of sights. The crew has been working hard keeping the course is very good shape and sometimes you just need to stop and watch the sunrise for a couple minutes.

On The Course August 9th

We have had a very good week with some rain and now we are looking at a really good weekend. We are mowing and rolling greens today. Fairways, tees and intermediate rough will be mowed this morning. Troy was able to get some work done  on the #3 Tee project with some help from the crew back filling the irrigation trenches. Tuesday we were able to topdress 3, 6, 7 and 9 fairways.  We will continue topdressing fairways next week and will have several applications in before winter. Our next sand application will be during our aerification process which starts after Labor Day.

We have been giving the range tee turf a little break this week and using the artificial mats. We will be back on the turf all weekend and will continue to utilize the hitting mats a couple days a week until the end of the season. Our range tee is too small for the amount of players we have on it daily.

On The Course August 5th

Fernando blowing fairways early Saturday morning of the Club Championship
We had a great Club Championship weekend with the course in very good shape. The crew did a great job starting early in the dark and getting the golf course ready for golf. We were able to mow most of the fine turf areas Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the weather was perfect. Today (Monday), we have received 1 inch of rain and we have a few puddles throughout the golf course. We are working on some irrigation at the Cabana today. Rubiel is getting the divots on the range tee sanded and seeded. Sheldon is mowing the range floor and will jump around the course and mow any dry areas. We were planning on topdressing some fairways today but with the rain it will have to wait until later in the week.
