With temperatures looking to get into the mid to high 90's today we will be out hand watering greens and other areas of the golf course. We hand water in the mornings to add extra moisture to the greens surfaces when it is going to be hot and dry, we do this in the afternoon to cool the surface temperature of the turf so it will not begin to wilt. Today we are rolling greens, mowing fairways and collars and approaches, and reseting the course. We will also be out vertidraining fairways again on the back nine. With the weather outlook to be hot and dry we will be running quite a bit of irrigation, we will be running irrigation throughout the next few days to test heads and water dry areas.
This is a picture of our summer Intern Nick Walters seeding in the new fairway on hole 7 of the E9. The area will be roped off and out of play until the new turf is established.

On The Course June 29th
It's another nice morning on the course. We will be single cutting greens this morning, mowing tees, and reseting the course. Today we will be Vertidraining fairways, this is a deep tine aerification process. Unlike the normal aerifying which goes 3 to 4 inches into the soil, the vertidrain allows us to impact the soil from 10 to 12 inches. This type of earification helps to relieve compaction, allow gas exchange in the soil profile, and also helps with drainage. Also you may have noticed the work going on with hole number 7 on the Executive 9. The area was preped yesterday and seeded, please stay out of this area if at all possible. We have mowed an alternate teeing surface near number 6 green which is marked with tee markers. Please play from there, thank you.

On The Course June 28th
With some dry weather and the golf course firming up we have been able to mow some rough the last few days that hasn't been mowed for a while. There may be some grass clippings in these areas but we will be working on blowing them throughout the day today. We will be single cutting and rolling greens this morning. Fairways and collars and approaches are also being mowed. We will be working on some detail work also today to catch up from the weather last week.

On The Course June 25th
We are mowing and rolling greens this morning. They are within our normal speed range. Intermediate rough, collars and approaches are being mowed also. Sheldon was able to come in this morning and is trying to catch up on some rough mowing but with the wet conditions he will be skipping some areas.
We are going to remain cart path only today but should lift restrictions tomorrow. The back nine has a lot of wet areas that we want to avoid. The less damage we do now the better the course will look when we dry out.

On The Course June 24th
Mowing and rolling greens today. The sun is shining and it looks to be a great day. The course is still very wet and we will remain cart path only. We are mowing fairways and are getting lots of grass so we will be running blowers throughout the morning.
There are still puddles in the roughs and a few on fairways. We will continue to pump off the areas we can and just hope for a little breeze and no rain for a couple of days.

On The Course June 23rd
We received another 0.4" of rain since 7pm last night. We are getting a little misty rain this morning but it should move through pretty quick and then we are looking at a couple of dry days for the weekend.
We are working on bunkers this morning and will be mowing greens later today. The course is still very wet but we have the trash pumps moving water and we are doing as much as we can to get things dried out.

On The Course June 22nd
It seems that we can't catch a break from the wet weather. We have received another .75 inches of rain since yesterday, most of which came around 3:00 this morning. The golf course is very wet. We are currently out pumping as much water off the course as we can. Our intern Nick Walters has been working hard running our trash pumps the last few days in various locations around the course that hold more water than others. We will continue pumping as much water as we can to prepare for the next down pour of rain. There is more rain forecasted for the rest of the day with the possibility of some stronger storms later in the day. The golf course is currently closed due to very wet conditions, we will be monitoring the rain and the course to determine when the course will again be playable. Thank you for your patience. Please contact the golf shop with any questions.

On The Course June 21st
We recieved 1.5" of rain this morning in a very short time from 3am to 5am. The good news is most of the rain surface drained off but the bad news is we have a lot of branches and one large tree down. We should be able to get the course open later this morning. Call the Pro Shop for current updates.
We will have more rain developing later this afternoon. We will be cart path only for today!

On The Course June 19th
Congratulations to our 2011 MGCC Invitational winners Jeff and Craig Hennike. It was an exciting shootout in the rain but they were the last guys standing. It is a little wet on the course this morning from the light rain last night. We received another .1 inches of rain which means the course will be soft this morning. We will be 90 degrees with carts today but we ask that you please keep it strictly to 90 degrees with the moisture on the course. We will be single cutting greens this morning, touching up bunkers, doing tee service, and cutting cups. Thanks again to all who participated in this years Invitational.

On The Course June 18th
Most of the rain missed us overnight. We ended up with a quick shower this morning picking up 0.1". Today we are mowing and rolling greens. We are running the groomers on the greens mowers at half the height of cut to clean up some of the leafy bentgrass and poa seedheads.
Collars and approaches are being mowed. Troy and I are setting the course up this morning for the final day of the Invitational. Good Luck to all the participants!

On The Course June 17th
Invitational 2011 practice round started the tournament off very well yesterday. We put out the tournament flags and flag sticks late in the morning yesterday and will be using them throughout the tournament. We will be using them for other tournaments we have this season. The Grounds Staff has done a terrific job getting the course in shape after all the rain earlier this week. We should have a great morning and early afternoon. There looks like a chance of rain later in the day.
What did the course look like at 4am this morning when the grounds crew started mowing and rolling greens? DARK!!!!
We are double cutting and rolling greens today. Fairways, tees and approaches are also being mowed. With an 8am shotgun we will try to get most everything mowed before the tournament. Troy and Jason will be working on the course set up this morning moving pin locations and tee locations. The wet areas in the rough and fairways have dried up nicely overnight.
JD and I have posted some Invitational pictures on the TV in the Proshop. Check in later this morning for some updated photos.

On The Course June 16th
We are starting to dry out after the 1.25" of rain in the last 36 hours. Today we are double cutting and rolling greens. Fairways, collars and approaches are also being mowed today.
The course still has some puddles and wet areas so we will remain cart path only. If we get some wind and sun this morning we might let carts off the path this afternoon.
We are trying to catch up on some mowing today with the rain yesterday so please be aware of the Maintenance Staff throughout the golf course.

On The Rainy Course June 15th
The stretch of dry weather has come to an end with 1 inch of rain over night. The course is a little wet but we expect it to drain off once the rain stops. We have been trying to keep the course as dry as possible with this rain event coming. We will not be able to mow greens this morning but we are working on some detail work throughout the course. We will be cart path only today.
Yesterday we were able to finish the bluegrass sod around the new forward tee on #5.

On The Course June 14th
Today we are mowing and rolling greens. They are with in our normal speed range. Fairways, collars, approaches and a lot of rough will be mowed today. Today is going to be a big mow day for us as we get ready for our Tuesday Leagues and the Invitational. We have bluegrass sod arriving late morning to finish off the forward tee on #5 and hope to have it ready for play late next week. We are also spraying a couple native areas for weeds and will finish off some rough areas that we have not treated this season. The new herbicide we have used this year is working really well and we are eagerly awaiting the second flush of dandelions to see how affective our application of Imprelis was.
Monday we were able to get all of the tees and fairways sprayed with some fertilizer. We also went through all of the bunker to clean up the edges and check sand depths.

On The Course June 11th
Great day for golf!!
We are mowing and rolling greens this morning. Most of our normal Saturday jobs are being done today. We will be testing some irrigation stations this morning and making a few adjustments. Our new Control System is 99% operational and the staff and I are amazed at the improvement in irrigation control and how the playability of the course is improved. It is still early in the process with the hot part of summer to come but the new controllers and central computer is helping us manage our water better.
Yesterday we finished laying bentgrass sod on the new #5 Forward Tee. We are looking at Monday or Tuesday to finish the bluegrass around the tee. The irrigation has been moved and we just need to fine tune the grade around the tee.
Josh from Hartman Companies was able to come out yesterday morning and Laser grade the tee top for us and get the perfect base set.

On The Course June 10th
We were looking at some rain moving in last night and we only recieved a trace amount. There are scattered showers throughout the day today but it should be minimal. Greens are being mowed and rolled this morning. They have firmed up nice with the dry weather and are rolling pretty smooth. Fairways, tees and approaches are being mowed. We have placed the sand on the tee top for #5 forward tee and will be finish grading it this morning and laying sod this afternoon.
Now that the course has dried up cart traffic is becoming a issue with people driving around the greens and tees. Please use the cart paths as much as possible and always keep all four tires on the path around greens and tees.
Parking lot project should be finishing up this morning. We still have some work to do around the edges getting the grade set. Please use caution around the edges of the main drive.
Thursday, June 9, 2011
On The Course June 9th
The weather has cooled down a lot since Tuesday. Today we are mowing greens, fairways, collars and approaches. We are going to be hauling sand to cap the forward tee on #5 and if the weather is good should have some turf on the tee top tomorrow.
The parking lot project has come along nicely and they even striped everything last night. We still have a few areas that need some work so be cautious when driving throughout the lot.
The perennial bed by Practice Green #10 was mulched yesterday.

On The Course June 8th
We managed to survive yesterday with a record high temperature of 103 degrees reported in the Metro Area. Our weather station on #3 record a high temp of 99 yesterday.
We are rolling greens this morning and mowing tees. The parking lot project is coming along nicely and they should get a lot of the final overlay done today. It has been a hectic couple of days with trying to park vehicles out of the way but it will be really nice having a clean smooth parking lot the rest of the summer. Out mechanic Shaun Hill is pretty excited to not have a bunch of pot holes outside the shop that the mowers keep hitting.
We are going to continue on #5 forward tee with irrigation and finishing the grading. We will be installing top mix for the tee top tomorrow morning.
Intern Nick Walters working on some measurements from Lohmann's grading plan.

On The Course June 7th
Well it was a hot, hot day yesterday and we had a lot going on at the club. The parking lot project started with a crew working on the patch work and mill areas of the parking lot that needed to be fixed. They will continue that today and start the overlay.
The #5 forward tee project was started yesterday and we were able to get a lot of the shaping done yesterday. We will be working on the grading around the tee top today and be relocating some irrigation. We are asking that everyone hit from the start of the fairway for most of today.
Greens will be single cut and rolled today. Fairways, collars and approaches are being mowed today. We are working on some sod projects and will be trimming portions of the golf course. We will be a little out of our normal routine this week with the paving project going on around our shop. We might miss a few details that we usually do on Tuesdays. We will catch up on these later in the week. We have been able to run some irrigation the last couple of nights and will be continuing to check some stations throughout the day today.
Please use caution when driving in and out of the club during the paving process.

On The Course June 5th
It's a very nice morning on the golf course. After some warm dry weather yesterday the course is in nice condition. Today we will be rolling greens, changing pin locations, doing tee service, mowing tees, and raking greenside bunkers. You may find that 18 approach is a little wet this morning from an irrigation head that was stuck on from last evenings irrigation cycle. Heads often stick on because there is fine debris in the irrigation water that collects in the valves inside of the heads, this causes the valves not to close and the head ramains running. We may see more of this with the weather finally drying out the course and allowing us to run more irrigation.

On The Course June 4th
We missed most of the rain yesterday with only a brief shower in the morning. Today we are mowing and rolling greens and setting the course up for play. Yesterday Matt Lohmann was using a GPS to mark the tee locations from the Master Plan. We are going to start working on #5 Forward tee on Monday, June 6th. The small blue pin flags are marking some of the proposed tee locations. At this point we are only putting plans together for a few holes and are not, at this point, planning on any more construction except for #5 forward tee. If you have any questions regarding the Master Plan please email me or give me a call.
Mary Pat and the flower crew planted the perennial beds around the putting green yesterday. We will be mulching this bed next week and putting in some plastic edging.

On The Course June 3rd
We are starting to dry out finally and the course is starting to get a little roll in the fairways. Yesterday we finished installing the irrigation loop on #15 and just have to prepare the area for seed. The rough between the cart paths on #15 and #16 will be roped off once we get it seeded and start watering it. We have added a few Spruce trees around tennis courst and will be finishing the soil work on those today. We also planted 3 River Birch behind #8 Green on the Executive Course. Justin finished a sod patch on #16 fairway yesterday and will be working on a couple other spots early next week.
Today we are single cutting and rolling greens. We are taking readings today with our TDR Soil Moisture meter and determining wether the need for some irrigation in necessary. We could be out hand watering some high spots later today if the wind keeps blowing. Fairways, collars and approaches are also being mowed.
If you see some blue flags and stakes around some of the tee areas we are working with Matt Lohmann from Lohmann Golf Designs on some construction drawings for a few tee complexes. We are going to be working on #5 Forward Tee next week and should have it close to being finished by the weekend.

On The Course June 2nd
What a great day yesterday was and we were able to get a lot of work done. We have almost all of the rough mowed except for a few spots where it is still a little wet. We have made some progress on the irrigation installation on #15 and #16. We never really know what we have to work with until the area is dug up and we can see what the pipe size is and what type of pipe we are dealing with. We were able to get connected to the main line yesterday and start working on installing irrigation heads. We should be able to finish this project today if the rain stays away.
We are rolling greens today and mowing bunker banks. We are mowing fairways today and have switch out mowing pattern up to striping. If we continue to get more rain we will switch back to the "Masters" or half and half cut.
Justin has been able to get a lot of the thistle sprayed in the native areas and is looking like it is curling up. We will continue to work on some spot spraying this week and next week.
Wednesday, June 1, 2011
On The Course June 1st
We are pushing forward with some projects this week and will be working on an irrigation installation on #15 and #16. We should get most of the pipe and irrigation heads in the ground today.
We are mowing greens, tees and fairways today. We should have a clear day to get most of our mowing done. There are still a lot of wet areas throughout the golf course that we need to avoid. Please use caution when driving off of the path. Today we will be 90 Degree Rule for carts.
With the strong steady wind yesterday we have some debris throughout the course that we are working on getting cleaned up today. We will be running blowers most of the morning.
